The innovative spirit that created the Cow Palace is the same one that launched the first all women’s rodeo at the Cow Place in 2023.

Women have held a longstanding presence in rodeo, reaching back to Prairie Rose Henderson who was the first female bronc rider, competing from the 1870s until 1932. She is considered one of the first professional women athletes and the first to compete in bronc riding. Today, they are some of the most accomplished women athletes. “Women of Rodeo” is an all women’s rodeo combining the thrilling women’s rodeo events of barrel racing and breakaway roping with the excitement of bronc and bull riding. “Women of Rodeo” is a competition for today’s cowgirls, who strive for excellence in the arena, and also serve as timekeepers, registration admins, pick up women, and promoters of the sport. Each year the Cow Palace honors women who have been significant contributors to the Cow Palace and rodeo in art, production, photography, equity, and promotion. Celebrate with us, the accomplishments of these athletes, and our commitment to ranching, ag education, and the Western lifestyle!
